Crokinole – Classic Board Game
If you haven’t played or heard about the game Crokinole before, then you’ve been missing out on a lot fun. For the people who are not aware, Crokinole is a game which is similar to Carrom, shuffle puck or Pitchnut and can be played between 2 to 4 players.
Crokinole board game was invented in Canada many years ago, dating back to the year 1870. However, this disk flicking game became popular all over the world in no time. Today many enjoy this game and even participate in World Championship held in Ontario, Canada.
Crokinole – An Overview of Classic Board Game
Players take turn and try to flick their disks into the centre hole of the Crokinole board. This will secure them highest points. Meanwhile opposing players may also try to hit each other’s disks into the low scoring position or knock them out of the playing area. For each Crokinole disk in play, player secure different point at the end of each round. The first player or team to secure a grand total of 100 points wins the game.
Gameplay:
The Crokinole board is divided in to three scoring fields with an increase in value towards the centre. There are 8 bumpers around the smallest inner circle to make it difficult for players to flick the disks in the centre hole. The biggest outer circle is divided into four quadrants. Players can only flick the disks from their quadrants outer line.
If there are no opposing disks on the Crokinole board then the upcoming player needs to aim for the centre hole. If the disk stay within the smallest circle or lands into the centre hole then it’s a valid shot. Failing from doing so, it is considered as invalid shot and the disk is out of play. Similarly, if the players fail to hit the opponent’s disk during their turn when there are disk lying on the board. This too can be considered as invalid shot and the disk is thrown out of play.
Scoring:
The disks landing within the scoring circle from outer to the centre hole will secure you 5, 10, 15 points respectively. The disks that land into the centre hole will fetch you 20 points. The points thus secured are added towards the end of each round. The side with the most points wins the round by the difference in points.
